In Hollywood, it's always better to regift than receive.
So just in time for the holidays, 1982's Tron gets a major upgrade for the iPhone crowd with the gleaming Tron: Legacy. Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro introduce moviegoers to some Little Fockers in their threequel. Jack Black lands a gigantic role as Gulliver. It's back to Narnia for a cruise on the Dawn Treader. And Jeff Bridges (also in Tron: Legacy, as multiple versions of himself) dons the eye patch last worn by John Wayne in 1969's western True Grit.
The latter is also one of the season's many awards hopefuls. Bridges, of course, won the best actor Oscar for his role in 2009's Crazy Heart. This year, other actors likely to be vying for gold include Mark Wahlberg, Colin Firth, Christian Bale, Natalie Portman and Nicole Kidman.
For the industry, these final six weeks of 2010 also represent a chance to regain momentum after a lacklustre year that was more mediocre than memorable (aside from such exceptions as The Social Network or Inception). Here's a rundown of the major releases due between now and the end of December. As always, dates are subject to change.
